Episcopal palace was a huge house that was beautiful and was owned by the Bishop (M. Myriel). 29th of July, 1714, was engraved in gold letters on a marble table. The Bishop visited the hospital after three days of his arrival and invited the director to his house. Once there the director asked the Bishop how many sick people there where (26) and later the bishop continued to ask how many beds does the director think would fit in the dinning room, which surprised the director. The bishop offered to let the sick to be placed in his house and on the following day the thirty-six patients were moved to the Bishops place while the Bishop went to live in the hospital. The Bishop had no property due to his family in ruins because of the Revolution. He received from the state a salary of fifteen thousand francs. He took a very small portion of his own salary and gave the rest to other matters like the Charitable maternity societies (his household expensive). M. Myriel made no change in his arrangement during the entire period he occupied the see of Digne. His sister Mademoiselle Baptistine loved and venerated him as a superior, kind, and wise person while there only servant Madame Magloire complained a bit about it. After awhile Madame Magloire told the Bishop that he has yet to claim the allowance which the department owes him for the expense as it is customary for bishops. The Bishop demanded his allowance and received an annual sum of three thousand francs. A former member of the Council of the Five hundred wrote a angry note complaining about the bishops expenses and about how he has become greedy like the previous bishops. Though the bishop instead spent all the money on the hospital, charity, and orphans and kept none of it to himself. The bishop helped those with little and gave money to them, which is all he needed in his life. The poor people of the country side welcomed him which for the bishop was better than a formal Monseigneur, reminding him that they are below him he instead wanted to stand with them.
