LES MIS TODAY

A connection of Les Mis to todays day and age would be poverty. This is mostly due to covid/lockdown and the inability of people not being able to work due to it. In Les Mis we can clearly see the poverty within the community. Another connection made would be higher ups attitude towards the poor and civilians. Like in Les Mis where one of  the characters the Bishop was talking too immediately was gloating about how the rest are inferiors to him and why they shouldn't have anything, people in our society do the same and it could be seen mostly in discrimination or oppression. For example the BLM movement was to protest against this. Religion is also a connection that can be made, or much rather the importance in religion. The bishops position is greatly seen in Les Mis as something of importance and is high on the social hierarchy scale. People however in our time use religion as a weopon at times due to how powerful it can be, as many people put a great importance in it.

LES MIS & THE FRENCH REVOLUTION

Both Les Mis and the French Revolution had a large majority of people in it in poverty. The French Revolution being a time of extreme poverty and Les Mis having portrayed many examples of a poverty stricken community. Another connection between the French Revolution and Les Mis is Napoleon as he appears in both of them. Even though we barely read about him in the book so far he does have a bigger role in the French Revolution.

LES MIS PART I SUMMARY

We first go through how M. Myrie became a bishop. By meeting with Napoleon who took a liking to him he was appointed bishop. M. Myrie the bishop lived with his sister Baptistine and a servant named Madame Magloire. His sister praised his older brother and held a lot of hope towards him. The bishop lent his house to the sick after visiting the hospital which barely managed with the patients they had, and he decided to use the hospital as his home. Through out the first part of the book it shows many examples of the bishop being caring and generous, especially towards the poor and sick. Not only did all his funds go to charity but he asked for more money so he could give it to the charity. This however upset many people and caused many to criticize him. M. Myrie still traveled around from village to village to talk about life and comfort them with teachings of god.       The bishop witnessed many things such as the execution of a man and a thief, but no matter how drastic the even

LES MIS CH14

In chapter 14 we see the bishops thinking process. We get to see that he doesn't put much interest in complex problems in life as he himself acknowledges that he isn't all knowing and smart. The bishop was fine and happy with his current knowledge and was thankful for it as he was satisfied which what he had.

LES MIS CH13

In this chapter we are told of the bishops kindness. He is kind not only to everyone no matter their circumstance, but he also was kind to nature and animals. Like the spider he saw outside or the time he sprained his ankle to prevent from stepping on an ant, this shows how the bishops nature of kindness truly is. What surprised me was him sleeping in his garden at times even though he had a bed to sleep in. I was also intrigued by the fact that he was a possibly violent man in his younger years as this is the total opposite of how we usually see the bishop, however we did see some aspects of that when he had the conversation with the old man in the previous chapters.

LITERATURE ANALYSIS #1

 1. The book I read was City of Ashes  by Cassandra Clare, being the second installment in The Mortal Instruments series. The plot of the book is basically Valentine trying to get the Soul Sword which is a mortal instrument. He did so by killing the silent brothers which where a special union of shadow hunters. Later Clary and the other shadow hunters (Alec and Izzy) went to investigate what happened to the silent brothers, finding them all dead. Jace being imprisoned there by the Inquisitor was found by Clary and the rest. After being freed the inquisitor finds them and accuses Jace of helping Valentine in the massacre of the Silent Brothers. Jace ends up having to stay with Magnus as a prisoner later being called to the Seelie queens court with Clary, Simon, and the others where they try getting her help in defeating valentine. There Clary and her friends where made prisoners and could only escape by kissing either Simon or Jace which in choice she chose Jace and Simon was hurt so h

PAGES FROM MY JOURNAL #3

October 29  I balance my need for individuality and to fit in by finding people who would accept me for me. To others who may come across our friend group we may seem weird, strange, or dumb. We all have our quirks and may get out of control form time to time when we have sudden mood changes or may just act awkward and shy. We may have different interest and it may be a bit weird but instead of suppressing ourselves around each other we embrace ourselves. I get to be myself around my friends and can be as weird and crazy as in want around them. I get to feel as myself around them. November 3  Hysterical strength distracts a person and gives them a huge energy boost due to there extreme stress they are under. As for our situation in school and achieving our academic goals, especially this past week when we where given the chance to do make up work. Since we where given this week most of us went into hightail/procrastination mode where one is highly productive and sacrifices there menta

LES MIS CH 12

It made a lot of sense that the bishop didn't have a lot of servants as he does seem mostly isolated and in no need of being praised like the other bishops. The other bishops have young priest that follow them and support them with every decision they make. However the bishops cannons and grand vicars where not young but instead good old men like himself that resembled him much rather than praise. Knowing the bishops behavior and personality so far made this feel as though he is very noble to his morals in life.

LES MIS CH 11

We get an explanation on why the bishop acted the way he did towards the former member of the French convention.  The argument the bishop had with him only made him more gentle as he was surprised at himself for ever having an attitude like that. We got to see why he had a hatred towards luxury as he saw it as an inconvenience and knew what the poor peoples conditions where while other people have all the luxury's. The Bishop also had two brothers a general and a perfect, and he showed more affection to  the perfect than his other brother which really surprised me as I never thought of him to act like that with his own siblings. Being more harsh and stern to his general brother by going after the emperor. I liked this chapter as it gave an explanation and reasoning to why the bishop acts the way he does towards political subjects.
