M. Myriel had many rumors and remarks made about him the very moment he arrived in the diocese. He was also the son of a councilor of the Parliament of Aix, which also made him a nobility of the bar. He however was well formed, short in stature, elegant, graceful, intelligent, and devoted. However during the Revolution all the parliamentary families where decimated, pursued, hunted down, and dispersed, which led M. Charles Myriel to immigrate to Italy. His wife died due to sickness of the chest which left him by himself since he didn't have any kids. Afterwards he came back from Italy a priest and no one knew any more than that. The Emperor Napoleon had come to visit his uncle and took a liking to him, which lead to M. Myriel being appointed as Bishop of D. However little was known about what happened next due to even his family not being that much acquainted with the Myriel family before the Revolution. Since little was known about him rumors arised again but soonly died down. M. Myriel had arrived at D with an elderly spinster called Mademoiselle Baptistine, who was his sister and a femalel servant of the same age as her called Madame Magloire, who was the servant of M. le Cure, maid to Mademoiselle, and housekeeper to Monseigneur. Mademoiselle Baptistine seemed gentle in  appearance and was she was clearly a good person and was seen as one by everyone else. Madame Magloire was seen as tired and exhausted almost all the time, due to her asthma she was out of breath a lot.
